Customer Appreciation: The Cordelia Sewn by Ali Cat & Co

Customer Appreciation Logo2

I hope you are all having a fabulous mid-February day.  We really appreciate our customers and love seeing what is being created with My Little Plumcake patterns.  We have a ton of fun showing you all off, so that’s what we’re doing!  Today, we’re taking some time to spotlight Brianne over at Ali Cat & Co. with her beautiful Cordelia that she created using our Cordelia dress tutorial. Remember!  The Cordelia is 25% off for the entire month of February!  Thanks, Brianne, for letting us present your work for show & tell.  You can see Brianne’s full blog post HERE.

Hi, I’m Brianne from Ali Cat & Co and I like pretty dresses.

Thank you for having me! I’ll be honest; I’m a new comer to My Little Plumcake but I have quickly fallen in love. The patterns are adorable and professional. Like I said, I like pretty dresses. When I saw the Cordelia Top; I knew it would be a pretty dress and I absolutely adore the sweetheart design. The pattern pieces print and align perfectly. The well marked pattern pieces make cutting a breeze. From cut to hem, I was done in under 3 hours. The pattern has a fully lined bodice, keyhole back for dressing ease, great pattern instructions and easily readable measurement charts. Perfect pattern? Umm…yea!

I left the dress in front of Ali’s door so she would see it when she woke up. She brought it downstairs with her in the morning and at 6:30am and 47F, she was begging to go outside to take pictures in the dress. A mommy seamstress couldn’t ask for anything better than that! Thank you My Little Plumcake for an extraordinary pattern and I can’t wait to see what release next!

Tutorial: The Cordelia DRESS

We’re gearing up for Valentine’s Day here at My Little Plumcake, and we’re going to help you get ready, too!  Our pattern of the month is the Cordelia Peplum top, so that’s the pattern we’re working with today.  We want very dearly for you to “Be Mine” so we’ve put together a tutorial, tied it onto one of cupid’s arrows and aimed it at you. Here’s the Cordelia DRESS tutorial! YAY!  We hope you’ll be our sweetheart (because of the neckline…get it?)

???????????????????????????????

We’re offering 2 different versions for you…a double and single layer skirt.  Pick the one that has your heart and get ready to sew!

Cordelia Dress3

The first step in this process is to make the bodice just like the instructions say to.

Once you’re finished, try the bodice on your little one and measure from the bottom of the bodice to where you want the dress length to be.  Now take that number, add in a hem allowance of ½” and a seam allowance (for where the skirt attaches to the bodice) of 3/8” to the  length.

My model was being horrible and I couldn’t get good shots

So lets use this model…

FOR DOUBLE LAYER: This is where we break off into the 2 variations.  If you are doing the double layer dress, cut out your peplum skirt pieces before moving on to the next step. For a single layer, you will NOT need to cut out  these peplum pieces.

Take your peplum pattern piece and extend the pattern by adding paper to the bottom.  Starting from the top corner of your pattern piece, line up your ruler flush with the top and measure your full dress-length. Draw a line straight down and another across. Cut out your new skirt pattern. Woo hoo!  Now, go ahead and cut out those skirt pieces.

Cordelia Dress8

For SINGLE layer: You should have 2 long skirt pieces and a completed bodice

For DOUBLE Layer: You should have 2 peplum, 2 skirt pieces and a completed bodice.

Sew up the skirt (and peplum) pieces on the sides and hem as per the tutorial. You’ll have this:

???????????????????????????????

FOR DOUBLE LAYER: Now layer the skirts and pin the raw edges together lining up side seams with wrong side to right side.

??????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????????

For BOTH versions: Baste gathering lines at the top of your skirt per the tutorial, pull the strings to make it gather and attach as instructed.  YEP!  It’s just that easy!

???????????????????????????????

Now your little sweetheart is ready to spread some love ❤

Pattern Of The Month: February 2014- The Cordelia!

It’s the first of the month and that means it’s time to announce the new Pattern of the month!  February is a month for sweethearts, so what better way to celebrate love than by offering the Cordelia Peplum Top for 25% off for the entire month?

The Cordelia is a sleeveless sweetheart top that comes with an optional scalloped collar.  The fun little peplum adds a little bit of flounce and fancy.  It can be worn as-is for those warm spring and summer days, but also looks amazing with a pretty cardigan or a simple long sleeved top underneath when there’s a chill in the air.  It can be paired with the Jack & Jill pants if you’d like and looks great under the Sophie cape.

Make sure you pick up your copy of this pattern and stay tuned for some fun pattern of the month blog posts.

Customer Appreciation (& Giveaway): The Sophie

By now I’m sure we’ve made it plainly obvious that the Sophie is our very first Pattern of the month (and is on sale for 25% off for the entire month of January).  If you haven’t gotten your hands on a copy of it, allow me to tempt you.  The Sophie is one of my favorite patterns for fall/winter/spring.  It’s so easy and fast to make, but fashionable and completely adorable.  It’s great as-is, but you can embellish it easily and add any kind of fun little detail to make it what you want (see the new hood tutorial).  If you need some Sophie Sew-spiration, a few of our amazing customers have been gracious enough to share their creations with us and have given us permission to share them with you.  Check these out for some fun styling ideas!

The first Sophie we have is from Heidi.  She needed a little extra warmth for her chilly weather, so she used 2 layers of fleece to cozy it up a bit.  I adore the little wild cheetah peek-a-booing from the inside.  Hot pink and cheetah…something every little fashionista needs!  We love it, Heidi!

Deborah from Sprouting JubeJube made this classic plaid Sophie and blogged about it TWICE.  I loved how she paired it with The Cordelia in her second post.  My Little Plumcake patterns are awesome for pairing together and Deborah made us proud.  She has blogged about quite a few of her My Little Plumcake creations, so make sure to check it out.  You’re just amazing, Deborah!

Now, I just LOVE this girly, fancy, twirly version that Raechel made for her little gal! The soft colors work so well with her daughter’s complexion and the white ruffle is a touch of flouncy fun.  It almost makes me want to twirl…wouldn’t that be fun to watch?  Such gorgeous work, Rachel!

 The Sophie Jacket!

This jacket is awesome for finishing out the winter and welcoming the chill of early spring.  It is a belted cape that creates the warmth and visual illusion of a sleeve by using a belt or a ribbon to tie it closed.  It’s fully lined and perfect for beginners.  There’s a faux button placket that gives the look of buttons with the ease of snaps!  As with all My Little Plumcake patterns, the Sophie is an instant PDF download- NO WAITING.     Michelle has JUST re-digitized this pattern as part of her plan to make MLPC the best it can be!  Snatch it up right now for 25% off.

We really hope that this blog will give you a great sewing experience.  We aim to help make you a more Savvy Seamstress with a little Plumcake spice and everything nice.
